New Music: ScHoolboy Q feat. Travis Scott – ‘CHopstix’

After debuting the song live on “The Tonight Show” last month, ScHoolboy Q delivers his latest single “CHopstix” featuring Travis Scott.

The TDE rapper flexes and salutes the “five-star” chicks on the melodic track, which features Travis’ Auto-Tuned melodies and “It’s lit” ad libs.

“I like her legs up like chopsticks / Luxury in my optics / Your ex man’s on the opp list / I’m validated to pop shit,” raps Q, who previously collaborated with Travis on 2015’s “Ok Alright” off Rodeo.

The song was originally set to drop last Friday, but ScHoolboy delayed it out of respect for Nipsey Hussle.

During his “Tonight Show” appearance, Q also announced that his new album would be “coming very, very, very, very, very, very soon.” The follow-up to 2016’s Blank Face LP has already spawned the lead single “Numb Numb Juice.”

Kodak Black Apologizes for Disrespectful Comments About Lauren London

Kodak Black is backing down from his disrespectful comments about Lauren London.

During a live broadcast on Instagram on Saturday (April 6), the “ZEZE” rapper announced his plans to wait “a whole year” before pursuing Nipsey’s Hussle’s girlfriend, who is grieving the loss of the rapper.

“Lauren London dat baby though. She finna be a whole widow out here. I’ll be the best man I can be for her,” said Kodak while speaking to friends. “I’ll give her a whole year. She might need a whole year to be crying and shit for him.”

He continued, “I ain’t trying to shoot at her. I’m saying, listen. She can do two, three years. I’ll try to be like if you need a friend to holla or a shoulder to lean on. You can call my line.”

Despite some backlash, Kodak doubled down on his comments in a later Instagram Live session. “Yeah, I say what I said. Hell, you expect her to be single forever? I said give her a year to breathe and cry. Hell yeah, she a bad bitch,” he continued. “Anyone of y’all, if she tried to holla at anybody, y’all ain’t finna be like, ‘No, I can’t do it because of Nipsey.’”

His comments, which come less than a week after Nipsey was shot and killed, were met with outrage and backlash from the hip-hop community including T.I., who reprimanded him. “You out of pocket, ni**a. Fix that shit…quickly, expeditiously,” said Tip.

The Game also blasted Kodak for “disrespecting” Nipsey’s legacy. “Kodak Black and any other ni**a disrespecting my ni**a Nip name, his legacy, his family, keep my ni**a name out your f**kin’ mouth,” said the Compton rapper. “Keep his girl’s name out your fuckin’ mouth. The f**k wrong with you new ni**as. No respect havin’ ass ni**as. This new generation, ya’ll are f**ked up in the head. Stop disrespecting my ni**a’s name.”

After enraging his peers and social media with his inflammatory comments, Kodak eventually issued an apology. “If I disrespected you Lauren London, in any shape or form, I’m sorry,” he said on Instagram Live. “Even though I didn’t. And rest in peace to [Nipsey].”

“My bad, so don’t shoot,” he added. “If I disrespected Lauren London in any way even though I know I didn’t, my bad. My bad.”

But that hasn’t stopped the fallout. In the wake of his controversial remarks, L.A. radio station Power 106 has vowed to no longer play Kodak’s music.

“We stand with the family of Nipsey Hussle and are appalled by the disrespectful and poor comments made by Kodak Black,” said Power 106 DJ Justin Credible. “With that, Power 106 will not support Kodak Black’s music.”

REAL 92.3 personality Big Boy also slammed Kodak for his comments, saying that the disrespect won’t be tolerated. “I’m not here for the blatant disrespect and fake ass apologies,” said the radio host. “To disrespect the King Nipsey and The Queen Lauren, is where I draw the line.”

I won’t disrespect my timeline posting a pic of Kodak Black. However, I will say this, I’m not here for the blatant disrespect and fake ass apologies. To disrespect the King Nipsey and The Queen Lauren, is where I draw the line. Hip Hop has been very disrespectful lately. Not only is this disrespectful to Hip Hop, but this is disrespectful to a beautiful human being, spirit and a legacy. Sometimes I feel a certain way, but I don’t publicly speak out. I just don’t fuck with the person, place or thing. This one, I can’t just keep it on a personal chill. I’ve been a child of Hip Hop for a looooooong time. Hip Hop raised me and I’ve raised Hip Hop. I’m not new to this or fake with this. I’m a soldier!!!! I’m not just Phone Taps and funny interviews. Check my pedigree. I will not stand by and let Kodak Black come between an allegiance I have with dear FRIENDS. Nipsey’s honor can’t be disrespected like this. We must put a shield around @LaurenLondon and his ENTIRE Family. We can’t allow these things to happen. Nipsey wouldn’t. We look the other way and forgive too easily. I’m a black man first and I love all that deserve my love. I’m with unity, however, we must discipline our own as well. This isn’t about radio or dropping records, that’s been done. This is about protecting a LEGACY and holding people accountable. This may not change Kodak Black now, but I pray it changes his or someone’s future. For all those out there that wanna disrespect and play with royalty, I advise you to think “THRICE”. Long live the spirit, knowledge and wisdom of Nipsey Hussle. This has to be the standard FOREVER!!! The Marathon continues 🏁🏁🏁🏁 (I’m blocking the bullshit from now on. Try me)

London and Hussle had been together for five years and shared a two-year-old son named Kross. Earlier in the week, the grieving actress paid tribute to her best friend. “I am completely lost,” she wrote on Instagram. “I’ve lost my best friend, my sanctuary my protector my soul … I’m lost without you. We are lost without you babe. I have no words.”

J. Cole, Big Sean Pay Tribute to Nipsey Hussle at Dreamville Festival

Nipsey Hussle was on everyone’s mind at Dreamville Festival.

The Crenshaw legend, who was killed one week ago in Los Angeles, was honored by his peers during Saturday’s inaugural festival at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh, North Carolina.

During his set, Big Sean delivered a heartfelt freestyle about the 33-year-old rapper. “Was fucked up what happened to Nipsey / The shit is sickening,” rapped the Detroit MC over piano keys. “Texting each other like we gon’ get up soon / Tell me how the fuck I feel now knowing we didn’t / And taught me next time I think we got all the time in the world / Shit just know really it isn’t / You died the same age as Jesus / Both God’s children.”

He also dedicated the moment to “Nipsey Hussle the Great.” “I wanna talk to Nipsey too because even though I know we just lost him, I also know that the body is a shell and I can still feel his energy. I can still feel his consciousness.”

Added Sean, “Nipsey, I just wanna say bro, thank you for teaching everybody so much. Thank you for the inspiration.”

J. Cole capped off the evening with his own touching tribute. While performing his 2014 Forest Hills Drive cut “Love Yourz,” footage of Nipsey was shown on the giant screen behind him as fans held up their cell phones. “Rest in peace, Nipsey Hussle. You a fuckin’ legend,” said Cole.

Earlier in the evening, 21 Savage also acknowledged Nipsey during his set and Teyana Taylor dedicated “Gonna Love Me” to Nipsey and his girlfriend Lauren London. “I wanna dedicate this next song to some close friends of mine,” she said. “I can’t even begin to imagine the pain and the heartache. Lauren, I love you so much. I wanna dedicate this song to you and Nip.”

Saturday’s Dreamville Festival also featured performances from SZA, 6LACK, Nelly, and Davido, as well as Dreamville’s own Bas, J.I.D, Cozz, EarthGang, Ari Lennox, Omen, and Lute.

Netflix Teases Beyoncé ‘Homecoming’ Documentary

Beyoncé is about to make the world stop once again.

On Sunday (April 7), Netflix teased a mysterious project called “Homecoming,” which is reportedly about Beyoncé’s epic performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The streaming service tweeted a graphic reading “Homecoming” against a yellow backdrop and an April 17 release date, which was also posted on its Strong Black Lead account.

Fans were quick to notice that the color scheme and font matches Beyoncé’s Coachella branding and merch from 2018. The April 17 release date would fall nearly one year after Bey’s acclaimed “Beychella” set, which was inspired by the HBCU homecoming weekend experience.

Earlier this week, Us Weekly reported that Beyoncé was working on a Netflix documentary “tied to her Coachella 2018 performance” that would feature additional footage.

Beyoncé became the first black woman to headline Coachella with her epic two-hour set in Indio, Calif. Last year, she also announced the Homecoming Scholars Award Program, an initiative that provides $25,000 scholarships to students at HBCUs.

While there hasn’t been confirmation, that didn’t stop fans from sharing their excitement over the prospect of a Beyoncé Netflix special.

YNW Melly Hires Boosie Badazz’ Lawyer for Murder Trial

After pleading not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder, YNW Melly is building his defense team.

The 19-year-old Florida rapper has hired Boosie Badazz’ former lawyer, Jason Roger Williams, to represent him in his double murder trial. According to legal documents obtained by XXL, a Broward County judge approved Williams’ addition to the case on April 3.

“I feel very confident. We have a very strong team with Brad Cohen and Nicole Burdett and myself,” Williams said of the case. “We feel really good about it. This is a process, and we’re hoping that it’s a fair process and all the evidence comes out.”

Williams is the Louisiana lawyer who represented Boosie during his 2011 murder trial, where he was acquitted of first-degree murder charges in 2012.

YNW Melly, born Jamell Demons, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder on Feb. 13 stemming from the October 2018 shooting of his friends, Anthony Williams (YNW Sakchaser) and Christopher Thomas Jr. (YNW Juvy), near Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Cortlen Henry (YNW Bortlen) was also arrested in connection with the killings.

The Miramar Police Department claims to have forensic and video evidence proving that Demons and Henry shot the men and staged the crime to make it seem like Williams and Thomas Jr. were killed during a drive-by shooting. The two men were pronounced dead at the hospital after being shot in the head, torso, and back.

YNW Melly will remain in Broward County jail until a trial date has been set. Since his arrest, his music has seen an increase in streams and his single “Murder on My Mind” was certified platinum by the RIAA last month.

Nipsey Hussle Memorial to Be Held at Staples Center

Nipsey Hussle’s family will honor him with a memorial service at Staples Center in Los Angeles this week.

Following the Clippers’ final NBA game of the season on Wednesday, the 21,000-seat arena will be set up to accommodate mourners on Thursday morning (April 11). According to TMZ, tickets for the event will be sold online. Only ticket holders will gain admission.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Nipsey’s family was looking for a venue large enough to accommodate his massive fan base and had considered The Forum in Inglewood before deciding on Staples, where Michael Jackson’s memorial was held in 2009.

On Wednesday, the 33-year-old rapper’s family reportedly met with Staples executives along with LAPD officials to coordinate logistics and security for the memorial.

The event, which is being pulled together in less than week, is a huge undertaking. Rental companies have already been contacted and ushers who work at Staples have been asked to reserve the day.

Staples Center is a fitting venue for the Crenshaw icon. Hussle, who was shot dead Sunday in front of his Marathon Clothing store, was often seen courtside attending Lakers games at Staples.

Reebok Denies Beyoncé Walked Out of Meeting Over Lack of Diversity

Representation matters to Beyoncé.

Queen Bey announced a major partnership with adidas this week, but she was also reportedly in talks with other brands. According to ESPN writer Nick DePaula, the singer held meetings with Under Armour, Jordan, and Reebok. During an interview for ESPN’s “The Jump,” DePaula claimed that the Reebok deal never got off the ground because of a lack of diversity and representation during the initial meeting.

“She had a meeting at Reebok, and they had a whole presentation of everything–potential products, how this could all look…and she kind of took a step back and said, ‘Is this the team that’ll be working on my product?’” said DePaula. “Somebody said yes, and she said, ‘Nobody in this room reflects my background, my skin color, and where I’m from and what I want to do. And so she kind of took a step back and left and then it did not come to terms.”

After the story made headlines, Reebok issued a denial. In a statement to TMZ, the sportswear giant–who is owned by adidas–said Bey did not walk out of a meeting because of a lack of diversity.

“The report that Beyoncé walked out of a meeting with Reebok due to lack of diversity is categorically false,” said a Reebok rep. “Our discussions with Beyoncé and her team continued for several months after our initial meeting. We are disappointed that false information is being reported as fact.”

It is not clear why the Reebok deal did not go through, but Beyoncé ultimately signed with adidas. The partnership was officially announced earlier this week and includes footwear, apparel, and the relaunch of her Ivy Park brand.

While the Reebok report may be inaccurate, it’s no secret that Beyoncé has always stood for diversity. She and JAY-Z were recently honored for their LGBTQ advocacy at the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards.

“We’re here to promote love for every human being, and change starts with supporting the people closest to you,” said Bey while accepting the award. “So let’s tell them they are loved, let’s remind them they are beautiful, let’s speak out and protect them, and parents—let’s love our kids in our truest form.”

Additionally, there are rumors that the superstar is working on new music as well as a Netflix documentary surrounding her epic Beychella set. Us Weekly reports that it “will be tied to her Coachella 2018 performance” and feature additional footage.

Rick Ross Honors Nipsey Hussle with Tattoo

Rick Ross is repping Nipsey Hussle for life.

As hip-hop continues to mourn, the Maybach Music boss is paying tribute to the slain rapper with a new tattoo. Taking to Instagram Stories, Rozay showed off the fresh ink on the back of his leg, which features a profile of the late Crenshaw legend.

The tat was done by Katherine “Tatu Baby” Flores, who also shared a photo of the work in progress. “Life is not guaranteed, BUT THE IMPACT YOU MAKE IN PEOPLES HEART AND THE WORLD WILL LIVE IN HISTORY FOREVER!” wrote the Miami tattoo artist. “@nipseyhussle you did that and your legacy will live and burn brighter than the all hate and envy!”

Ross also revealed that he was planning to shoot a video with Nipsey and Teyana Taylor for a new collaboration off his upcoming album Port of Miami 2: Born to Kill.

“Dam man I just had Nipsey and Teyana Taylor going over video ideas for our new joint on Port of Miami 2,” he wrote. “When news broke, Teyana called me in tears and total disbelief. I’m listening to this shit now in anger.”

Rozay and Nipsey collaborated several times on songs like “Mark My Words,” “A Hunnit a Show,” and “The Weather.” Ross even tried to sign Nipsey to his MMG label. “I was gonna do the deal when Ross put the MMG thing on the table,” Nipsey told Big Boy on REAL 92.3. “Just the terms and the way Ross set up [things], and the way the conversation started in that building, it was a great opportunity. It was a great situation. I just had a concern with my team getting credit for breaking Nipsey Hussle, so I didn’t necessarily want to take that from my team.”

While he didn’t take the deal, Nipsey had nothing but respect for the Bawse. “I would have took that deal,” he explained. “Even just outside of the terms, just how Ross hustles. I believe in Ross as a hustler. Everything he said and done, every convo we had, every time I sent a verse he executed it. So I got a lot of respect for Rozay, so I would have just done it off GP. But I got a team I committed to ahead of time, and I had to make sure they got the credit for what they did.”

Rozay isn’t the only one paying homage to Nipsey in ink. Cleveland Cavaliers star J.R. Smith also got a tattoo of the West Coast icon. The portrait was inspired by a photo shoot Nipsey did for Rap-Up’s Sound Bites last year.

Nipsey Hussle Family Looking for Large Venue to Host Memorial

Nipsey Hussle was an icon in his community and hip-hop, and his family is making sure that those who loved him are able to pay their respects.

According to TMZ, Nipsey’s family members are planning a public memorial and are searching for a venue that can accommodate a massive crowd. They are scouting locations but their choices are limited due to size. The family has reportedly passed on venues with 2,000 seats and want to find one that can accommodate over 15,000 people.

The only two venues in L.A. that can host such a large crowd would be The Forum in Inglewood and Staples Center in downtown L.A., where Michael Jackson’s memorial service was held in 2009.

Nipsey’s family wants to make sure that everyone who wants to celebrate his life will be able to. He had a profound impact on his community and his murder has resonated in L.A. and beyond. Thousands of fans have gathered for candlelight vigils outside his Marathon Clothing store, where he was fatally shot on Sunday.

In the wake of his passing, tributes have been pouring in from fans, friends, and those closest to him including his girlfriend Lauren London, his brother, and his bodyguard, who announced plans to retire following the tragedy.

Nipsey’s peers including Drake, Kendrick Lamar, 2 Chainz, and Tyga have also paid tribute to the West Coast legend during their live shows.

Iggy Azalea Performs ‘Sally Walker’ on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

Sally Walker hits the Strip.

Iggy Azalea took over “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” for the first televised performance of “Sally Walker” on Thursday night (April 4). During the show’s week-long visit to Las Vegas, the blonde bombshell hit the stage at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood for a Vegas-inspired performance in front of the famed Stardust logo. Following a solo from “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star Miss Vanjie, who appeared in the video, Iggy emerged from inside a red coffin.

As the neon logos for some iconic Strip landmarks flashed on stage, Iggy strut her stuff in a red bodysuit covered with pearls while slaying the choreography with her female dancers.

“I Had the best time on @jimmykimmellive tonight !!!” said Iggy following the performance. “Thank you to @theblondsny and @laroxx for creating this very VEGAS outfit.”

“Sally Walker” is the first single off Iggy’s upcoming album In My Defense, her first since leaving Island Records and signing a $2.7 million deal with EMPIRE.
