Terrelle Pryor Facing Charges After Being Stabbed

According to TMZ, police arrested Terrelle Pryor on simple assault charges immediately after he was treated for stab wounds early Saturday morning.

The events unfolded after two women and Shalaya Briston, Pryor’s girlfriend, reportedly went to his apartment after going to a nightclub. The former NFL baller, who did not accompany the women to the club, allegedly began arguing with Briston which lead to a physical fight.

A female witness, Briston’s friend, says Pryor knocked her to the ground and began physically hitting Briston. The two fought all over the house and ended up in the kitchen. The witness says they then saw Pryor clutching his chest and bleeding after what appeared to be a stab wound.

Police say one witness was voice texting into her watch at the hospital where Pryor was being treated and was and was overheard saying, “She was just defending herself and had to do it.”

“The only reason I’m here was to make sure that he didn’t die,” one of the women reportedly said. “We should have just let him die.”

Briston is being charged with criminal attempt homicide and aggravated assault.

Pryor was initially in critical condition, he is now in stable condition and expected to survive.

Desmond Howard Apologizes For Acting Up Live On-Air

According to TMZ Sports, Desmond Howard took his love for the “Chappelle’s Show” to a whole new level.

The former Michigan star and ESPN analyst was asked about the Wolverines’ chances against Big Ten rival Ohio State this season during College GameDay’s broadcast when he let out a reference from one of the shoes classic skits.

Howard was asked:

“Will Michigan make a big enough splash to beat Ohio State this year?” Rece Davis asked. “I know you’ve never been asked that question.”

He responded:

“Rece Davis, is Desmond Howard gonna have to choke a b***?…I tell you what, look, I have my barbershop response, and my PC response.”

Howard quickly apologized for the reference by saying.

“I’m a big Wayne Brady fan and I made a comment that was supposed to be taken as a joke,” Howard said. “If I offended anybody, I apologize.”

Wayne Brady dropped that “choke a b*** line” during a Chappelle show skit. Brady himself has spoken out in support of Howard using his classic line.

The Internet Reacts To Jay-Z’s NFL Partnership

So Jay-Z is officially partnering with the NFL and some folks have questions.

According to NFL.com, Roc Nation — the entertainment company founded by Jigga — is entering a multiyear partnership with the NFL to augment the league’s live game experience and to amplify their social justice efforts. NFL.com reports:

“As part of the agreement, Roc Nation will advise on the selection of artists for major NFL performances like the Super Bowl. A major component of the partnership will be to nurture and strengthen community through football and music, including through the NFL’s Inspire Change initiative.”

Inspire Change was launched by the NFL in early 2019. With the help of NFL players, the goal of the initiative is to create positive change in communities across the U.S. The league office and NFL teams will work with the Players Coalition and other NFL players to support initiatives that reduce barriers to opportunity. They’ll mainly focus on economic advancement and education, police and community relations, and criminal justice reform.

Roc Nation will also partner with the NFL to create and distribute content across multiple music streaming platforms for a variety of initiatives.

With news of the partnership, reactions have been varied to say the least.

Of course, you had dramatic drywall dirt like Tomi Lahren being outraged:

“Jay-Z will be consulting with the NFL for the Super Bowl halftime show and other performances because apparently the league doesn’t hate America and law enforcement officers at a level satisfactory enough for the former drug dealer.”

But then you had folks down for the cause who were also a little salty. Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid slammed the partnership as “disingenuous” considering the NFL has still blackballed Colin Kaepernick. When a fan alluded to Reid being a hypocrite for playing in the NFL, he responded in a series of tweets:

“You & some others seem to misunderstand that we had no beef with the NFL until they started perpetuating the systemic oppression that we are fighting by blackballing Colin and then me. Nah I won’t quit playing but I will be a royal pain in the NFL’s a** for acting like they care about people of color by forming numerous disingenuous partnerships to address social injustice while collectively blackballing Colin, the person who brought oppression and social injustice to the forefront of the NFL platform.”

Cowboys Running Back Ezekiel Elliott Will Pay For Jaylon McKenzie’s Funeral Expenses

This past weekend, the family of Jaylon McKenzie was struck with grief when the star football player was killed at a party. Now, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is stepping in to cover the funeral expenses.

According to ESPN, Elliott, who grew up in St. Louis, reached out to McKenzie’s family soon after the eighth grader died. He wanted to keep the matter between him and the family, but the Cowboys confirmed that Elliott was paying for their funeral expenses.

“Zeke is really a special guy,” coach Jason Garrett said on Wednesday at the team’s sponsors’ golf tournament taking place at the Cowboys Golf Club. “He’s a great football player obviously, but he’s a really good person and that doesn’t surprise me one bit.”

Garrett continued:

“He’s just very generous. He’s got a great spirit about him. We see that every day as players and coaches. Anybody that’s been around him knows that, and it doesn’t surprise me one bit that he would get involved there. He’s someone that a lot of people look up to, a lot of people certainly in St. Louis and Missouri, Ohio State, all across the country. If you’re a fan of football, you know Zeke Elliott, and anybody who’s been around him on a daily basis knows what kind of person he is.”

McKenzie’s mother, Sukeena Gunner, explained that her son was about to leave a party in Venice, Illinois when a fight broke out. According to Illinois State Police, McKenzie was hit by a stray bullet and eventually died at a local hospital. The eighth grader was already becoming a star athlete with college scholarship offers. He was also picked to compete in the All-American All-Star Game in Canton, Ohio, during the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction weekend. His sudden passing was truly a tragedy.

Good to know there’s athletes out there supporting the family in their time of grievance.

Rising Football Player Jaylon McKenzie Is Shot And Killed At Party

Unfortunately, a young footballer’s life was cut way to short this weekend at an Illinois party.

According to CNN, Jaylon McKenzie was an eighth-grader who had plans of going to the NFL, but this dream tragically ended when he was shot and killed at the party.

The 14-year-old was already getting college offers from University of Missouri and University of Illinois, and he was featured in Future Issue of Sports Illustrated back in 2018, along with five other teen sports stars. He had dreams of being a pro star in California, playing for either the Los Angeles Chargers or Rams.

However, this past Saturday, Jaylon attended a party near the Illinois-Missouri border and according to his mother, Sukeena Gunner, a fight broke out. Jaylon walked outside to exit the party, and that’s when a stray bullet hit him. Jaylon and a 15-year-old girl were rushed to the hospital where Jaylon died a short time after, according to police. Meanwhile, the girl is in critical condition.

Gunner told CNN that Jaylon usually didn’t attend parties because he was so busy playing football, basketball and running track during the summer. However, May was slower, so she said Jaylon had more free time. Gunner said Jaylon was with friends Saturday night. “They stopped by the party, not with any intentions to staying long,” she said. According to her, they were there to pick up something from a friend.

When Gunner received word that Jaylon got shot, she said she started screaming. “I just prayed and asked the Lord not to take my baby,” she said. “It’s very hard. It’s still like a bad dream, like I’m gonna wake up in the morning and my baby’s gonna be smiling at me asking for something to eat like he always does.”

Politicians and athletes sent their condolences on social media. Illinois Rep. LaToya Greenwood wrote on Facebook, “There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love. #JaylonMcKenzie”

Former NFL wide receiver Earl Bennett also tweeted, “My heart and prayers goes out to Jaylon McKenzie family and friends. Matthew 5:4.” The scripture he referenced reads: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
