Drake Begins Work on New Album

Drake is back in the lab.

Almost one year after releasing Scorpion, the D has announced plans for the follow-up. During the London stop on his “Assassination Vacation Tour” on Tuesday night (April 9), Drizzy said that he’s already started recording and plans to hit the studio once he returns to the U.S. and return with a new album in 2020.

“This is one of my favorite places to be in the world,” he told the crowd at the O2 Arena. “So I think what I’ma do—I kinda actually started last night to be honest with you. But I think what I’ma do after this, is I’ma go home and I’ma make a new album so I can come back to London next year and we can do this again.”

Additionally, Drake and Future appear to be working on What a Time to Be Alive 2. Last week, Future took to Instagram Stories with Drake, where they revealed that they are cooking up new music, a possible sequel to their 2015 collaborative project What a Time to Be Alive.

“What’s that? We gotta cook that up. That two,” said Drake while holding up two fingers in the video. Future responded, “It’s already cooked. Top secret.”

In addition to teasing new music, Drake took to Instagram to share some old Twitter DMs between him and Kendrick Lamar, Trey Songz, Kevin Durant, and more. “Logged into my twitter today and got a quick reminder that time is in full flight,” he wrote. “A lot of blessings to be aware and appreciative of for so many of us…take a quick moment to digest the progression in your life no matter how small or large. Then get back to it.”

Battle of Throat Chakras ‼️ ⁉️ Claps Back at Ella Mai After Shady Tweet

Jacquees and Ella Mai’s R&Beef continues.

On Tuesday (April 9), Tory Lanez brought out the “Bed” singer during his show with Drake at London’s O2 Arena. While on stage, Jacquees performed his own hits as well as his popular remix to Mai’s “Trip.”

After hearing about the performance, the “Boo’d Up” songstress sent out a tweet seemingly aimed at the Cash Money crooner. “i’d be so embarrassed if someone brung me on stage and the only thing i could sing was someone elses song because nobody knew my actual music. poor thing,” she tweeted.

Jacquees released his remix to “Trip” on YouTube and SoundCloud back in September. It racked up millions of streams before it was removed following a copyright claim from Mai’s label 10 Summers.

Now Jacquees has responded to the diss, claiming that he and Mustard, who produced the song and signed Ella to 10 Summers, had already worked things out.

“Me and @djmustard already cleared this up we plan on working we on the next page,” he wrote. “I’m doing what I do. Much success to ya Ella Mai.”

He also clapped back at Mai’s claim that no one knows his music by listing off his certifications. “Yea and everything gold or Plat …B.E.D. AT THE, CLUB OCEAN, YOU, YOUR PEACE NEXT!” he added.

His girlfriend Dreezy also stepped in to defend her man. “1st of all he hate performing that song,” she said. “They put him on the spot and he did what he was sposed to do. Every single he dropped is gold or plat, humble yourself girl.”

Tory Lanez also jumped in, saying that Jacquees did not want to perform the “Trip” remix, but did so after being persuaded. “I brought my lil brother out to HIS OWN SHIT… My ni**a ain’t even wanna perform the remix .. matter fact he hate performing it,” said Tory. “But I put him on the spot . Cuz I figured we was in London at the O2, 30,000 in the stands and bunch of kids was asking for the REMIX . On another note @jacquees U killed ALL the songs u performed tonight ! Keep shining my ni**a.”

Wiz Khalifa Docuseries to Premiere on Apple Music

Wiz Khalifa is taking fans “Behind the Cam.”

The Pittsburgh rapper is set to launch his docuseries, “Wiz Khalifa: Behind the Cam,” on April 17 via Apple Music.

According to Variety, the five-part series will focus on the “most intimate aspects of Wiz’s life,” and feature archival footage from his decade-plus-long career, along with interviews with those closest to him including his mother, manager, and Taylor Gang labelmate Chevy Woods.

The two-minute trailer explores his rise from local rapper to global superstar. A young Wiz is seen at one of his first meet and greets, which was attended by a single person. He also raps for a handful of people at a basketball court before later performing the same song in front of thousands of people. Despite his humble beginnings, Wiz was always confident that he was going to make it.

“He was just born ready to just do this shit,” says Chevy.

All five episodes of “Wiz Khalifa: Behind the Cam” will be available on April 17 on Apple Music, in between Wiz’s performances at Coachella.

Kodak Black Claims T.I. Wanted ‘First Dibs’ on Lauren London

Kodak Black is stirring up more controversy with his latest comments.

After saying he would romantically pursue Lauren London following Nipsey Hussle’s death, T.I. called him out and told him to apologize. “You out of pocket, ni**a. Fix that shit…quickly, expeditiously,” said Tip.

As a result of his disrespectful remarks, his exhibit was removed from T.I.’s Trap Music Museum in Atlanta, prompting Kodak to lash out at the museum. “Fuck that pussy ass museum,” he said. “I ain’t give you permission to put me up anyway.”

Now, Kodak is going even further, claiming that T.I. only targeted him because he himself was interested in pursuing Nipsey’s late girlfriend, who is grieving the loss of the 33-year-old rapper. “Dude just wants first dibs on her,” Kodak said repeatedly during an Instagram livestream. “Eat a baby dick,” he added.

Following the backlash from his earlier comments, others including The Game also put Kodak on blast for “disrespecting” Nipsey’s legacy, while Power 106 banned Kodak’s music from their radio station.

“We stand with the family of Nipsey Hussle and are appalled by the disrespectful and poor comments made by Kodak Black,” tweeted Power 106 DJ Justin Credible. “With that, Power 106 will not support Kodak Black’s music.”

REAL 92.3 personality Big Boy also slammed Kodak for his comments, saying that the disrespect won’t be tolerated. “I’m not here for the blatant disrespect and fake ass apologies,” said the radio host. “To disrespect the King Nipsey and The Queen Lauren, is where I draw the line.”

Kodak eventually issued an apology over his inflammatory comments, but stopped short of admitting fault. “If I disrespected you Lauren London, in any shape or form, I’m sorry,” he said on Instagram Live. “Even though I didn’t. And rest in peace to [Nipsey].”

L.A. Intersection to Be Named After Nipsey Hussle

Nipsey Hussle’s legacy lives on.

As fans continue to mourn his death, Nipsey’s hometown is paying homage to him. On Friday, the Los Angeles City Council is expected to introduce a motion to rename the intersection of Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard as “Ermias ‘Nipsey Hussle’ Asghedom Square,” according to Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson, a friend of Hussle’s.

The news follows an online movement to name the intersection of Crenshaw and Slauson, where Nipsey was killed, to “Nipsey Hussle Way” in honor of the community icon. The petition on Change.org currently has over 480,000 signatures.

The 33-year-old rapper, who was shot and killed outside of his Marathon Clothing store last month, was celebrated for his activism and work in the community.

Harris-Dawson recalled his first meeting with Hussle at a 2013 rally against gun violence. “It was 8 in the morning at Crenshaw High School,” he told The New York Times. “And here was this guy who I knew had a show the night before. He was there with his daughter.”

A public memorial will be held at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Thursday. Earlier today, tickets for the “Celebration of Life” were distributed online and were gone within minutes. Organizers announced less than an hour later that no more tickets were available.

According to TMZ, the two-hour ceremony is expected to be followed by a lengthy procession that will travel roughly 25 miles past The Marathon Clothing store in South L.A. before ending at a funeral home in the Crenshaw district.

Lil Uzi Vert Drops Two New Tracks, ‘Sanguine Paradise’ and ‘That’s a Rack’

Things are looking up for Lil Uzi Vert. Following the release of “Free Uzi” last month, the Philly rapper unleashes a pair of new tracks, “Sanguine Paradise” and “That’s a Rack.”

On the upbeat “Sanguine Paradise,” Uzi drops the top on the Wraith and boasts about making $100K while flossing his diamonds. “I’m so up and I can’t turn it down,” he raps. “They counted me out / My whole life turned around.”

“That’s a Rack” finds Uzi hitting with “no strings attached” and rapping about his ways with the ladies. “All my bitches 10s / No, I do not fuck no fans,” he boasts.

Last month, Uzi returned to music with “Free Uzi” and announced a new management deal with Roc Nation.

His oft-delayed sophomore album Eternal Atake is still awaiting a release date. In response to the “Free Uzi” movement, his Generation Now bosses, DJ Drama and Don Cannon, announced that Uzi has their blessing to release the project.

August Alsina Remixes Khalid’s ‘Talk’

August Alsina keeps the remixes coming. After dropping his Kehlani remix, the R&B crooner comes through with another remix to Khalid’s “Talk.”

August adds his smooth touch to the Free Spirit track. “Everytime we talk about what you got on your plate / Stirring up all these emotions / Chase the real away,” he sings on his soulful rendition, which is accompanied by a Snapchat-inspired video.

Last month, he put his spin on Kehlani’s “Nunya.” August is also coming off the release of his Forever and a Day EP, which was released in time for Valentine’s Day.

Meanwhile, Khalid’s “Talk” can be found on his newly-released sophomore album Free Spirit, which is set to debut at No. 1 on next week’s Billboard 200.

In a recent interview with TIME, X credited Thugger for starting the “country trap” movement. “I believe whenever you’re trying something new, it’s always going to get some kind of bad reception,” he said. “For example, when rap started, or when rock and roll began. But with country trap, I in no way want to take credit for that. I believe Young Thug would be one of the biggest pioneers in that.”

Last week, Lil Nas X dropped the Billy Ray Cyrus remix to “Old Town Road,” which rises from No. 15 to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.

Jhené Aiko Delays Music Out of Respect for Nipsey Hussle

Jhené Aiko is postponing her new music out of respect for Nipsey Hussle.

The singer had planned to drop new material this month, but has decided to wait. Responding to a comment from a fan asking for new music, Jhené informed them that her plans have been put on hold.

“Out of respect for Nipsey, I will be postponing the release of the new music I planned on releasing this month,” she said.

She didn’t announce a new date, only saying she would release it when she feels “the time is right.” “I want to take this time to remember and reflect on the life of the legendary Nipsey Hussle,” she added. “Thank you for understanding. long live NH.”

Following Nipsey’s death, Jhené penned a touching tribute to her Crenshaw brother. “You so inspired me, motivated me … you made me so proud to be from the same city,” she wrote on Instagram. “I am honored to have known you and so thankful that you always showed me love and support. people always thought u were one of my brothers and in a way, you are. my heart is so heavy. we really lost a gem.
